Our relationship will be

  • Personalized

It is you and me. There is nobody to interfere with me being your doctor and your advocate. No support staff. No electronic medical record. No insurance company. No employer. Just the two of us.

  • Targeted

Our focus will be on your health concerns and health goals. These can be very specific or very broad, short term or long term. We are not fitting you into somebody else’s idea of priorities or health.

  • Integrative

We are going to integrate emerging knowledge in longevity medicine, mitochondrial physiology, biophysics, deutenomics, chronobiology, metabolism, and bioenergetics with time honored wisdom as well as appropriate conventional and “alternative” therapies when needed.

FAQs

Are you taking New patients?

Yes!

How do I become a patient?

All prospective patients to the practice need to meet Ed first, so that they can have basic questions answered and see if they think that this practice is a fit for them. This is to help ensure that you do not commit your time and money to joining the practice if it does not suit your goals and needs.

There are three ways for you to accomplish this.

First is to attend a New Patient Orientation will review what you can expect from Ed, what he expects from you in this relationship, and the advantages of Ed’s practice over a conventionally run and financed medical practice. We will also review fees and discounts, the expected duration and frequency of non-urgent visits, the availability for urgent visits, and any other questions that you may have. Participants who wish to schedule an initial appointment can do so at the meeting and will be provided with new-patient packets with forms to complete and data to collect prior to our first appointment together. If parent(s) or guardian(s) wish to enroll their child in this practice, I ask that all people with medical decision authority for said child attend the session together so that everybody is on the same page.

Second is for you attend a Tip-Jar-Class of your choice and stay afterward for a bit of time so that we can chat and you can receive a new patient packet.

Third is to contact Ed through the contact page to set up a one on one in person chat at a mutually convenient time.

Where is your office?

My office is composed of two small office “cabins” in an open field with beautiful and relaxing views in Singers Glen, Virginia. One building is the exam room and office. The other is the sitting room and library.

How long are appointments?

For an initial appointment we set aside 2 hours of time so that I can get a comprehensive medical history and clarity as to your goals. Subsequent appointments are booked in 20 minute increments, and we can decide together at the time of scheduling how long we think the appointment will take.

Do you take walk in patients?

No. I am not a walk in clinic although I do take care of my established patients on short term notice when I can.

Do you take care of all Ages?

The endeavor of good health starts before birth and doesn’t end until the end, so I see people of all ages.

Do you take care of all health issues?

I am not a traditional primary care physician nor a traditional specialist focusing on single anatomical organ systems. I am a consultant who will help you understand and improve the fundamental level of your biology and thus improve overall health. If you have an issue that is a mystery or if you have been given symptomatic treatment without fixing the basic problem, then you may find that I can help. If you have a specific issue which I feel needs specialty care that I cannot provide, I will tell you so.

What are the most common issues that you take care of?

Much of my practice is focused on solving problems which patients feel have been inadequately treated or which remain “mystery illnesses.” Common diagnoses that I work with are metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes, hormone issues (particularly thyroid), weight loss and obesity, gastrointestinal complaints, autoimmune disease, fatty liver disease, high blood pressure, chronic pain and mood issues.

Another large portion of my work is directed at true preventative medicine, looking for issues that are detectable now but which may not demonstrate significant symptoms for years or decades.

What is longevity Medicine?

Longevity medicine is a medical discipline which focuses on improving function and delaying dysfunction with a goal of allowing people to live a mentally and physically vibrant life into a very late age. The current evolution of the science in this medical disciple is very exciting, demonstrating a potential to allow us to live much longer than most people expect. This is not the practice of suppressing symptoms, smoothing wrinkles, and surgically making you appear “younger.” This is the science of healing diseases, stabilizing and slowing your biological clock, and helping you preserve and improve mental and physical function.

Do you take insurance?

No. As one friend says: “For the health and safety of my patients and myself, I do not take insurance.”

My experience as a physician is that involving a third party payer significantly inhibits the physician-patient healing relationship, adds huge administrative burdens which increase costs while taking away from the time I spend with you, and it puts somebody other than you in charge of your care. My services can be paid for out of pocket or through a Health Savings Account. Payment is due at time of service, and although I do take credit and debit cards, patients can take advantage of escalating discounts depending on mode of payment.

Is this type of one on one personalized care expensive?

In the big picture, I would say it is not. By spending time with you and really listening, I am able to minimize the expenses of tests, medications, supplements and therapies. By answering your questions and having a real conversation, you don’t leave confused and not knowing what the plan is. Taking the time needed, we do not have to have multiple seven minute visits which waste your time in travel, waiting, scheduling, and juggling work and family responsibilities. By teaching you the real fundamentals of health, you save long term expenses, and you gain health and longevity which are priceless. You are getting health concepts and strategies now that will not be part of conventional medical practice for another twenty years or more, if ever.

Are you available 24/7?

I am not an emergency room or a doc-in-the-box, and I need sleep just like you. My intention is to give you the tools and education to know how to competently and confidently handle most of the questions that come up in the middle of the night, and then if you still need me the next day, we can have an office visit. If you have something going on where you need an emergency room or an ambulance like acute chest pain, a stroke, or a significant injury, then you need those services and not me.
